FAQ
How much posing is involved in your style?
My posing involvement varies per client, I am happy to make mirco adjustments as we're working together, but for the most part I try to not mirco-manage each pose. I love sessions in which I can tell my clients where to hang out and do some simple movements (walking, slow dancing, snuggling, chatting, etc) and then I step back and document what I see. I will certainly take images of clients addressing the camera, but the images I love best are the ones where clients are in their own bubble and not as aware of me.
What does it take to book a session?

Will there be a second shooter?
I don't currently work with a second shooter,
What kind of gear do you use?
My gear is fairly minimal--I'm a Canon gal and will generally bring a few different lenses to your event, but rarely need to bust out a tripod or anything obtrusive. I do use flash during your reception in order to freeze all your best dance moves.
Do I have to order prints through you?
I currently don't offer print orders, which means I'm not looking to make additional profit on prints after your session, which keeps my pricing transparent. You will receive an online gallery of your edited images that you can share with whomever you want. You will be able to download the files and order prints yourself. I am happy to suggest print labs if you aren't sure where to go.
Are there travel fees for weddings?
I'm located out of Iowa City and have travel fees ($0.75/mi) on services as follows:
--Travel is charged for sessions that are beyond 60mi roundtrip from Iowa City. This includes the complimentary engagement sessions that are included with wedding packages.
--Half Day Wedding Packages include travel up to 60mi roundtrip from Iowa City (basically 30min from Iowa City), anything beyond that is charged at $0.75/mi
--Full Day Wedding Packages include travel up to 240mi roundtrip from Iowa City (basically anything beyond 2-hours from Iowa City), anything beyond that is charged at $0.75/mi.
Where does the name 'Sparrow & Bean' come from?
SPARROW comes from having been fondly nicknamed 'Little Sparrow' back in the day when I as a young photo assistant for Meredith Publishing in Des Moines.
BEAN is what I used to call my beloved chocolate lab 'Addie' who, as a puppy, looked like a little cocoa bean.
When thinking naming a business, I liked the idea of these parts of my story living together.
